Los Alamos machine tops fastest computer list
As expected, a new supercomputer built by IBM for Los Alamos National Lab topped the latest list of the world's 500 fastest computers. Other IBM machines were the second and third faster, and IBM computers accounted for more than 40 percent of the entire list.
New computer does Windows 3,000 times faster
The most powerful Windows-based computer in Europe is being installed in Stockholm's UmeƄ University. Nicknamed "Akka", the supercomputer incorporates IBM Power microprocessors, Cell Broadband Engines and Intel processors and is about 3,000 times faster than the average laptop.
