Pregnancy Diet Plan

Having a healthy pregnancy is one of the best ways to promote a healthy birth. Proper pregnancy dietis important as during these days your body needs a regular supply of nutrients to provide you energy and for that you need to eat well. A pregnancy dietshould have more vitamins and minerals especially iron and folic acid. You need a few more calories during your pregnancy as well. Getting your diet right is more about what you eat than about how much. Avoid junk food as it has no nutrients. Having milk and dairy products like skimmed milk, curd and cheese are always recommended. Vegetables, fruits, cereals, nuts and pulses are a rich source of proteins, vitamins and minerals and one must necessarily have these as these are very nutritious.Drink lots of fluids especially water and fresh fruit juices. Your own appetite is the best indicator of how much you need to eat and it fluctuates during the course of pregnancy. In the first few weeks if you suffer from nausea or sickness try to eat small portions of meal throughout the day. Later when your appetite comes back, start eating food which is healthy and has high nutritive value. Having vitamins, minerals and iron supplements may be a good idea and can be a part of your pregnancy diet. Regular intake of folic acid in particular is very important. Try to eat every four hours as your baby needs regular sustenance, so try not to miss meals. You want maximum nutrition during pregnancy. Make sure that Super Foods like whole grains (bread and cereals), beans (black/ white, lentils, soya), and food products having omega 3 fatty acids, eggs, berries and yogurt should be included in your daily meals. Good nutrition during pregnancy helps the mother and the baby to stay healthy. The pregnancydietshould be rich in calories, proteins, vitamins and minerals and should comprise of fruits, vegetables and lean meat. A pregnant woman should avoid certain foods like pasteurized milk, alcohol and caffeine. Having salads and fresh fruits between meals is always a better idea. Eat healthy foods which are full of nutrients and not “empty calories” such as those found in soft drinks, candies and desserts. Everything has to be balanced and you also have to check out things at times. Increase in intake of fruits and vegetables helps the pregnant woman to keep fit. Two to three servings of dairy products is essential and can be in the form of milk, eggs, soya protein and nuts. Three servings of complex carbohydrates like cereals and whole wheat grain is highly essential. Water is also an essential part and must be paid attention to. 6 glasses of water per day is a must during pregnancy. Excess fat intake should be avoided as it not only increases the weight but also makes the child birth process difficult. Include dried figs in your diet to satisfy for sweet cravings. So overall, a proper nutrition is important for the mother to provide energy and nutrients which are in turn needed to create a healthy baby.

Managing Hair Health With Dr. Shikha

Hair loss is a problem that affects everybody, although in varying degrees of severity. Losing hair each day is a normal process. It is normal to lose 50 to 100 hair strands daily. Did you know? Each strand of the scalp called hair goes through a growing phase, lasting about 1000 days. During this phase, each hair grows approximately 1 cm per month. After this, the hair stops growing for 10 days. This is followed by resting phase where the hair falls out of the follicle to be replaced by a new strand of hair, which will go through the same three phases. This phase lasts for 100 days. There are roughly 1,00,000 hairs on the average scalp and thus it is said that up to 100 hair strands dying and falling out each day is normal. Hair, as per its life cycle, will grow and periodically fall out. Normal hair loss should not be stressed over, as the 100 strands that fall out are replaced by new ones produced by the scalp. A healthy diet can ensure that your hair keeps growing at the pace of 1 cm a month and new strands grow every time you shed a hair.Nutri Health Systems believes in the power of diet and here are few nutrients that are emphasized by dietitians at the clinic: Nutrient Functions Sources Vitamin A Essential in forming healthy cells and tissues in the body, and this of course includes hair. Additionally it works with silica and zinc to stop drying and clogging of the sebaceous glands.  These are the glands vital to producing sebum, which is an important lubricant for the hair follicle. Dark Green Leafy Vegetables like Spinach, Bathua, Methi, Eggs and Meat Liver, Cheese and Milk. Also, include yellow and orange fruits/vegetables like papaya, mango, carrots, and pumpkin in diet. Vitamins B All types of B vitamins needs to be sufficient in diet to maintain proper health. Vitamins B-6, folic acid, biotin, and vitamin B-12 are all necessary components in maintaining healthy hemoglobin levels in the blood, which is the iron-containing portion of red-blood cells. Hemoglobin’s main function is to deliver oxygen from the lungs to the tissues of the body, so if these vitamins were deficient in one’s body, then hair and skin would show signs. Foods rich in B vitamins include beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, soy beans, nutritional yeast, bran, nuts and eggs. Eat all dals as these are good sources of Vit-B. Vitamin E Vit E is essentially required to provide good blood circulation to the scalp by increasing the uptake of oxygen. Vitamin E is found in a wide variety of foods. The richest sources are plant oils such as soya, corn and olive oil. Other good sources include nuts and seeds, and wheat germ. Copper Is a trace mineral that is also necessary in the production of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is vital to the process of carrying oxygen to tissues such as the hair. Copper is a trace element. Good sources include nuts and shellfish. Zinc A vital component to growing healthy hair, it is responsible for cell production, tissue growth and repair, and the maintenance of the oil-secreting glands of the scalp. It also plays a large role in protein synthesis and collagen formation. For this reason, Zinc is an important mineral for both hair growth and dandruff prevention. Zinc is a trace element found widely in the environment. Good food sources of zinc include meat, shellfish, milk and dairy foods such as cheese, bread, and cereal products such as wheat germ. Silica Is vital to the strength of hair, and although it will not necessarily stop hair from falling out from the follicle, it will stop hair breakage. It works by stimulating the cell metabolism and formation, which slows the aging process. Good food sources of silicon include cereals, apples, oranges, cherries, raisins, almonds, peanuts, raw cabbage, onions, carrots, brinjal, pumpkin, cucumber, fish, honey, oats, unrefined grains/cereals with high fiber content, nuts and seeds. Biotin Is also an important nutrient which is necessary for hair health. It is needed for healthy hair and skin, and may even prevent hair loss in some men. Dr. Shikha Sharma is of the opinion that this leads to fermentation in the intestinal lining causing bloating and even increasing craving in many.3.    Enjoy more whole grain cereals. Eat multi grain breads rather than white breads. Try brown or red rice instead of white rice. Your breakfast should be substituted with broken wheat or oat meal from cornflakes or semolina. Whole grain cereals are rich in fiber and allow clearance of your system with ease.4.    Avoid combination of proteins and cereals at one time. It is researched at Nutri-Health Systems those meals eaten with one particular kind of carbohydrate or protein is best for a weight loss plan. The meal is well absorbed and the calories get reduced too.5.    Eat fruits as healthy meal substitutes. Fruit sugars also hamper with weight loss. You may eat a bowl of fruits as meal for lunch or dinner by replacing carbohydrates and proteins. Fruit juices, pickles and jams hamper with weight loss and need to be avoided.6.    Raw vegetables in diet are best for weight loss. Salads and steamed veggies are great for weight loss. Eat the in plenty with each meal or as a healthy snack itself. You will find good weight loss results if you increase your consumption of salads. It is important that the dressings in the salads are low calorie.7.    Breakfast on time and dinner two hours before bedtime will speed up weight loss.  Eating when your metabolism is good helps with shedding weight easily. Skipping breakfast will actually lead to weight gain as you end up chewing on wrong food items and overeating. Dr.Shikha Sharma recommends that you eat on time and avoid missing any meal for good weight loss results.8.    Drink plenty of luke warm water throughout the day. This helps in clearing water retention and bloating as well decreases indigested food residue in the intestine. Water flushes out toxins, hence it is important that you drink up to 2 liters in a day. 9.    Detox every Monday or Tuesday. OUR DEEPEST DESIRES, DECODED

How we think is influenced by many things – our habits and our subconscious ways of perception. We have read that we are influenced by several things in our consciousness, like values, belief systems, desires, training, etc., but how we end up thinking is a fine process, in which each aspect of our mind is acting in a way which we can call filters.Let’s take an example: we go to the mall and see a red handbag we like. This can be termed a trigger, a stimulus picked up by us through our eyes. Now, this information goes to our brain, and there it goes through the following filtration processes:Filtration process 1 This process begins from our deepest unconscious desires, which we are not aware of. These desires could be anything – one of them could be to look attractive, confident or glamorous. So the handbag’s colour and size may attract us because we unconsciously feel a sort of synergy with how the bag looks. At the same time, other women may see the bag but may pass it by since according to their mindset the colour red is not their type.Filtration process 2After the thought passes through the first filter, it may get modified – either increasing or decreasing in attraction. The next set of filters is values and belief systems. Our values and belief systems are the largest set of filters that dictate the direction and formation of thought, and while the first set of filters have intensity and strength, the second set of filters may not have the high intensity but have a very structured form, and these filters define the rules we set for ourselves. The values and belief systems could be: I need to look well turned out, so I deserve the bag; or conversely, I don’t need to waste money buying the bag as I should conserve my money. This is the level at which family or spouse pressure may be felt or not experienced at all. So if we have a belief system that what my friends say is how I should behave, then my peers can influence me at this point. When the thought leaves filtration process 2, it has become structured in terms of going towards a decision, which may result in action or inaction.Filtration process 3This is the mind filter we employ to understand the situation and measure it on our set of unique experiences and training. These are the personal experiences we’ve had and the inferences or outcomes we have created as a set of our understanding of the world. These experiences and their impact on our thinking begins young, so if financial prudence is what we were trained in, we may not buy the bag immediately. Conversely, if our habits make us an impulsive person, we may go with our habits. The fourth filterThis filter is very gentle but extremely persistent – it is the inner voice. This is the voice that kicks in when important decisions have to be made, otherwise it stays silent. The feature of this inner voice is that it is a powerful one that is non-judgmental. It never dies out; one can hear it very clearly when one is not thinking consciously (i.e. the problem solving thinking mode is silent at that time). The thought is accompanied by a sense of calm and immense courage.Since the inner voice is a very gentle voice, the only way to identify it is the accompanying immense sense of courage and calm confidence. We have the power to change our lives and shape it in the way we want. However this power is dependent upon knowing oneself and being aware of the way one has been thinking. Enterprising people see opportunity all the time, blamers see only lost opportunity. Optimists see the best possibilities at every point, pessimists see only problems. The list is endless… it depends on how we see the world.Nutri Health Systemswww.nutrihealthsystems.com

SOFT DRINKS GREAT TASTE- BUT DETERIORATES YOUR HEALTH

Soft drinks have three main ingredients. These are carbonated water, sugar and caffeine. There is nothing that sounds too harmful in this list and neither is there any substance that sounds like it will have a good nutritional value. Most of the cola drinks are high in sugar and calories which your body doesn’t need at all. On the other hand there is only a meager amount of nutrients present in it and their frequent consumption may severely affect your immune system. The nutritional value of most soft drinks and beverages is typically low. At the same time, calorie content and sugar content can be high. A 7 fl oz glass of regular Coca-Cola contains more than 4 teaspoons of added sugar. Regular sodas are viewed by most nutritionists as 'empty' calorie foods which contain calories but almost no nutrition. There are calorie count of some soft drinks in 1 canCoco cola          150 cal7up                  145 calMountain dew    80 cal                 Pepsi                150 calA can of low calorie Diet Cola, It only has 1 calorie per 100mls and so would seem to be a good low calorie option. Its amounts of protein, carbohydrates, sugars, fat and fibre are all nil. This cola has a trace amount of sodium which means that the 300ml of cola, contained in this can, has a salt content of 2%. The list of ingredients include:- Carbonated waterFlavorings which include caffeineColor, caramel which is an E number.Citric AcidSweeteners such as aspartamePhosphoric AcidAcidity regulator E331Tartaric AcidA source of Phenylalanine The list above is typical of a low calorie soft drink. At first glance it may look good, as it has no calorific content. However all it really contains, apart from water, are taste enhancers. These come in the form of acids, sweeteners and chemicals. Some of the major side effects which has been hidden under this great taste are·         High Blood Pressure and heart related problems:-·         Excessive consumption of these drinks may deteriorate the calcium content in your body. The acidic nature of the drink followed by the increased sugar content eventually leads to weaker bones and also erodes your tooth enamel.·         Gastrointestinal trouble and insomniaFrequent use of cola drinks causes gastrointestinal troubles followed by insomnia. You may also feel a low appetite and therefore a drop in your overall body weight. The soda stimulates your nervous system and thereby disturbs your normal sleep.·         Possibility of becoming an addictCola drinks are rich in caffeine, a stimulant which can slowly turn you addict towards this drink just like what a coffee does to you.Nutri Health Systemswww.nutrihealthsystems.com

GOUT – AN INFLAMMATORY DISORDER

Gout is a disease that results from an overload of uric acid in the body. This overload of uric acid leads to the formation of tiny crystals of urate that deposit in tissues of the body, especially the joints. When crystals form in the joints, it causes recurring attacks of joint inflammation (arthritis). Gout is considered a chronic and progressive disease. Gout Symptoms                        Symptoms of gout include:Joints that are commonly affected include the ankles, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows. Acute gout attacks are characterized by a rapid onset of pain in the affected joint followed by warmth, swelling, reddish discoloration, and marked tenderness. Tenderness can be intense so that even a blanket touching the skin over the affected joint can be unbearable. Uric acid crystals can deposit in tiny fluid-filled sacs (bursae) around the joints. These urate crystals can incite inflammation in the bursae, leading to pain and swelling around the joints (a condition called bursitis). Your body produces uric acid when it breaks down purines, substances that are found naturally in your body, as well as in certain foods, such as organ meats, anchovies, herring, asparagus and mushrooms.Foods that you eat, and don't eat, can impact your gout by increasing or decreasing your blood uric acid levels. The primary dietary goal for gout is to limit your intake of foods with high amounts of purine in them. Ideally, you will have little or no foods that are high in purine and only small amounts of those with moderate amounts of purine.Foods considered high in purine content include:·         Some fish, seafood and shellfish, including anchovies, sardines, mackerel, scallops, herring, mussels, codfish, trout, and haddock·         Some meats such as bacon, turkey, veal, venison, liver, beef kidney, brain, and sweetbreads·         Alcoholic beveragesFoods considered moderate in purine content include:·         Meats such as beef, veal, poultry, pork, and lamb·         Crab, lobster, oysters, and shrimp·         Vegetables such as asparagus, spinach, green peas, mushrooms, and cauliflower·         Kidney beans, lentils, and lima beans Gout Home RemediesAs there is a saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. We can trust apple to keep also the Gout away. A person with gout complaints must eat at least one apple per day for obtaining relief. Drinking 6-8 ounces glasses of fluid a day not only reduces gout attacks a day but also wash out the urate crystals from the system and prevent you from developing kidney stones. Drink the half cup juice of French beans everyday for a month once or twice. Bananas are a good home remedy for curing Gout. Consume 3-4 bananas a day. One of the important home remedies to treat Gout is to soak a piece of white flannel cloth in warm castor oil and place it over the affected areas.Mince the garlic and add it to black cherry juice for better effects. This remedy works very well if you have the garlic cherry paste in the early morning. Massage muscles and joints with Neem oil. It relieves pain from gout.Nutri Health Systemswww.nutrihealthsystems.com

WEIGHT LOSS ADVICE MYTHS ABOUT THE METHODS

WEIGHT LOSS ADVICE MYTHS ABOUT THE METHODS Weight loss is something which most people have tried or wish to do in order to achieve a slim figure and as a result there are as many unscientific methods and suggestions as there are people who love to advise each other. There is no problem in trying a particular weight loss method and sharing the experience with family and friends , but there is a fine line between sharing personal experiences and trying to advise others like a- know it all , as little knowledge can get dangerous .Dr.Shikha's Nutri-Health Healthy weight lossUnscientific advise number 1Eat everything and hit the gym, it will burn everything away! Most people think the body metabolism is like a fireplace where we can burn away all the foods, but in reality it is not so , body metabolism is not a furnace but a complex series of biological interactions which systematically break the food into food chains and components with biological enzymes and reactions and ultimately get the protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals etc.s to be separated and moved for their individual roles , so you can not eat junk and expect the body to burn it off the way we people burn junk in their backyard . exercise has its own specific role and effects and while it definitely improves metabolism , lung capacity , body tone and heart pumping , it can not act as a destruction method for irresponsible eating .Unscientific advise number 2Eat everything, but in moderation! This advise definitely comes from know it alls who have no clue about food science or human biology. This advise is so ambiguous that anybody can make anything out of it , to begin with eat everything sounds like music to everyone and therefore people love such advises, but it is very painful if you try to follow it because there are simply no results after trying this for several months also. This unscientific advise does not work for several reasons because nowhere it guides about what does moderation mean, how much of the foods which are considered fattening, at what interval and in what quantities ? It leaves everything to the imagination and trust me people can get really imaginative without a clear guidance I know people who consider 6 drinks as moderation while consuming alcohol, eating burgers thrice a week is also moderation, the same goes for pizzas, chips,  chocolates ice creams .Unscientific advise number 3To lose weight eat less This is a very amusing and completely unscientific way of losing weight. It simply means keep eating less till you get results and often ends in starvation diets. Anybody advising this has to be alien to human biology .Low calorie diets were in the ear when no knowledge about food science in connection with human metabolic process was known and it lead to funny conjectures and advisories. low calorie diets have failed worldwide due to side effects and associated problems. The side effects due to low calorie diets include acidity, gas, low blood pressure, severe hair fall, skin problems etc.Unscientific advise number 4Children can eat everything as they are active This is the age to eat everything, because when they grow up they anyway have to curtail due to health problems. This advise comes from people who consider breakdown and repair on the same lines as preventive maintenance and who think that till the time the body does not give up or collapse it can be treated as we feel like.Children are the most vulnerable to junk food, and junk food is not to be consumed with children’s foods. Just because advertisements show kids it does not make that food as a special food for kids.kids brain and organs are rapidly growing and at this stage it is most vital that that kids the right kind of food which does not damage their brain or bodies. This advise needs modification to say that kids need to eat a wide variety and kind of healthy foods in order to get nutritional benefits from a range of good foods which should include the correct amount of essential oils and fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals. The diet mentality is not the correct mindset as it is purely cosmetic in nature and does nothing to improve health or manage weight in the long term, it is a short term flirtation without any long term intentions.Nutri Health Systemswww.nutrihealthsystems.com

SOUND SLEEP NECESSARY FOR GOOD HEALTH

Called a support pillar of good health, sleep has been described as a natural phenomenon for rest and resurgence of the body and mind. It is an absolute relaxation which is essential for human beings. Ancient ayurvedic texts have it that considering the right time and the right period, sleep enables the body to get vigour and strength. Proper and timely sleep is known to remove drowsiness, augment the power of digestion and restore the natural equilibrium among the various physiological systems of the body. The first step to improving the quality of your rest is finding out how much sleep you need. How much sleep is enough? While sleep requirements vary slightly from person to person, most healthy adults need at least 8 hours of sleep each night to function at their best.  There are number of factors which are considered to be conducive for good sleep. 1.) Keep a regular sleep schedule Set a regular bedtime Wake up at the same time every day Not napping too close to your regular bedtime. 2.) Naturally regulate your sleep-wake cycle Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin production is controlled by light exposure. Your brain should secrete more in the evening, when it’s dark, to make you sleepy, and less during the day when it’s light and you want to stay awake and alert. However, many aspects of modern life can disrupt your body’s natural production of melatonin and with it your sleep-wake cycle. 3.) Create a relaxing bedtime routine Make sure your bed is comfortable Keep noise down. 4.) Eat right and get regular exercise Stay away from big meals at night. Avoid alcohol before bed. Cut down on caffeine. Quit smoking. 5.) Reduce Screen Time Before Bed A light and timely dinner, avoiding late night TV programmes and purposeless socializing, cutting, back on caffeinated drinks in the evening and a restful environment help getting proper. Fixing proper time to go to bed and adhering to it gradually sets the biological clock in order. Nutri Health Systemshttp://www.nutrihealthsystems.com

WEIGHT LOSS ( SCIENTIFIC AND CRASH DIETS)

Weight loss is a reduction of the total body mass, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass. It can be achieved intentionally or unintentionally. Intentional weight loss is achieved for weight reduction whereas  unintentional weight loss generally occurs due to any disease condition. There are two ways a person can lose weight i.e. by crash diet or by Scientific method. Crash diets are those diets which help to reduce more weight in less time period. There are many crash diet plans available in the market some of them are Atkins plan, GM plan, grapefruit plan etc. But nutritionally these plans are not safe, because these plans make an individual starve, make metabolic rate sluggish and they cannot fulfill the nutritional requirement. Other than this after following these plan weight rebound easily. Apart from crash diets some people take pills for weight reduction, but it is not also not a safe method. Because an individual cannot take pills for their whole life and when ever pills are withdrawn there is a rebound weight gain.Scientific weight loss is the safe method for losing weight. In scientific weight loss an individual lose weight under the guidance of the well qualified nutritionists and doctors.  The doctors and nutritionists plan a diet according to the physiological state of the body, while the crash diet does not consider any physiological condition.  Scientific weight loss is a slow process of losing weight in healthy manner. In this an individual can lose 2 -2.5 kg in a month. These diet help in boosting metabolic rate. Scientific weight loss are not achieved only through balanced diet, it also include light exercise, yoga and some herbs. There are many herbs which can help in enhancing weight loss when a balanced diet and a decent, slowly accelerated exercise plan are both followed. Also, these herbs can help in improving blood sugar control, metabolism and body composition. They may also help in preventing long periods of no weight loss, or the "plateau effect," that can be quite frustrating.Herbs play an important role in weight loss. Some herbs act on digestion, metabolism, or appetite to impact weight loss. Certain substances can increase thermogenesis, or metabolism, which may lead to weight loss. But these herbs can be taken under the guidance of a professional. Herbs like green tea, fennel, fenugreek seed, licorice, cumin etc. help in losing weight as well as increase metabolic rate and digestion. It also removes excess of body water which causes water retention and weight gain. These herbs not only reduce weight but also strengthen immune system. Herbs help to reduce stress, which is the major cause of obesity in developing countries. The one thing which we do not know about our body is its own power of healing. We have to boost our immune system which can be achieved by balanced diet, light exercise, yoga and herbs and then the body can do his work to get the better health.Nutri Health Systemswww.nutrihealthsystems.com
