Square One supports AutoCAD DXF to SVG conversion

Square One announced that its pdf2vector conversion software, which alreads allows PDF, PS, EMF and CGM export to SVG, now supports AutoCAD’s DXF file format as well.

DocSoft CGM-to-SVG Beta Test

DocSoft announced a public beta of their CGM v4 to SVG converter. The main focus is WebCGM to SVG 1.1 conversion. The software runs in a .NET environment.

BikeCAD Pro exports SVG

BikeCAD Pro, a Java-based CAD program specific to bicycle frame design, now exports SVG. It integrates the Batik toolkit to enable SVG generation.

BeatWare Mobile Designer is released

Beatware Mobile Designer, an SVG authoring tool specifically aimed at animated, mobile SVG Tiny content creation, is released. It allows editing of other SVG ptofiles, but has automated checking to ensure that only valid SVG Tiny content is exported. A trial download is available.

Sony Ericsson K700 supports SVG using ZOOMON

PDF2SVG 1.6 is now available on Linux as well as Windows. It converts PDF to SVG; both GUI and command line converters are available.

SVG seen as key to Mozilla

Brendan Eich, Chief Architect for Mozilla and inventor of JavaScript, listed "Accelerate and optimize the SVG effort" as a key requirement in his Mozilla Futures dev-day slides. He also mentioned hardware accelleration on Quartz, OpenGL, and GDI+.

Zoomon announced that the Siemens CX65 phone ships as standard with their SVG Tiny viewer. The triband GSM, GPRS phone is available in the European, Asia-Pacific, and Latin American markets. (more details)

Access ships NetFront SVG Viewer

Access is shipping their NetFront Mobile Client Suite, a multimedia-enabled application stack for handset manufacturers that runs on Linux and other embedded operating systems. The suite features an XHTML Web browser, multimedia messaging (MMS) client, personal information manager (PIM), SyncML client, SMIL player, Tiny-compliant SVG Viewer and Java MIDP support. Sketsa 1.7 released

Sketsa is a vector based drawing application which uses SVG as the native file format and has visual, DOM, and source views. Version 1.7 improves the property editor and toolbox. Sketsa runs on any Java 1.4.1 or higher platform.

W3C at 3GSM

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is present at the 3GSM 2004 Congress, from 23 to 26 February 2004, in Cannes, France. Over 25,000 visitors will have the opportunity to learn about W3C's efforts in Multimodal Interaction, Voice Browsing, Device Independence, and Multimedia Messaging. The program gives an overview of W3C work on Mobile devices.
