Causes and Natural Remedies For Snoring Problems

There are many causes of snoring. Snoring is usually caused when the air flow is blocked from entering through the mouth or nose. There are many reasons why the air flow might be blocked. If you have seasonal allergies or a sinus infection, the air flow might be blocked due to a stuffy nose. Drinking alcoholic drinks, taking part in deep sleep, or using sleeping pills are other reasons why you may snore. The muscles in your tongue or throat become overly relaxed when you do the above, causing the muscles to cave into the airway. However, sleeping in another room does not have to be a solution to your snoring problem. Snoring, like almost everything else, can be treated. By unearthing the cause of your snoring, you can improve your overall health, your daily lifestyle, your relationships, and, of course, your sleep. As you become older, muscles get more relaxed, increasing the risks of snoring. Overweight can cause snoring, since most people who suffer with obesity have thick throat tissue. Large tonsils and adenoids can also make children snore. If the opening of your throat or nose becomes narrow because of the palate or uvula in the back of your mouth, the tissue can vibrate against each other and cause you to snore. Snoring also has a negative affect on health, which can become very serious over time. While there are many snoring problems, one serious health disorder that can develop is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can cause long breathing interruptions that last more than 10 seconds, as well as heart strain, constantly waking up, light sleeping, and poor sleeping. These symptoms, in turn, may cause stress for an individual. There are other negative health affects from snoring as well, which are usually related to someone having difficulty breathing. Some disorders that might make an appearance are insomnia (having trouble falling asleep), hypersomnia (sleeping at inappropriate times), parasomnia (doing certain activities while sleeping, like sleepwalking) and movement disorders that are related to sleeping (like restless leg syndrome). Sleep can not only affect your body but it can affect those around you. Because lots of couples resort to sleeping in different bedrooms if a spouse snores and disrupts sleep, intimacy and communication may be affected negatively. Since snoring is often loud, it is not uncommon for a sleep partner to wake up twenty times or more per hour. This can create stress and have a negative impact socially and physically on relationships. Because the one snoring has to sleep in another room at night, it takes away from bedtime conversation and physical intimacy, resulting in a suffering relationship. The person sent into exile becomes frustrated as well, since he/she feels as though the snoring cannot be controlled. There are some natural supplements however, that will offer snoring relief. Because some people don't like the idea of taking prescription medication to stop snoring, natural supplements are a wonderful alternative. Since snoring supplements are natural, you do not have to worry about taking medication. An example of a natural supplement that many people use is the spray. This spray is created with natural ingredients and is pretty easy to use, as the snorer just has to spray his/her throat every night before bed. Like a lubricant, the spray helps air flow blockages, which decreases snoring and helps couples sleep comfortably during the night. The person using the spray will also be able to breathe easier than he/she did before. The tablet is another type of natural supplement that will silence loud snoring. The tablet is created with natural herbs and stops snoring by breaking up mucus, which usually narrows the airway, in the throat. Because mucus is reduced, snoring lessens and breathing is made easier. There are also natural remedies for snoring that can be done on your own. Some remedies are more time consuming than others. One such remedy is to lose weight, even if the weight loss is not much. Snoring is more likely to develop in people with obesity because of the fatty tissue in the back of the throat, losing some weight will help to decrease the snoring mild to moderate. Another natural remedy is to sleep on your side. Sleeping on your back sometimes increases snoring, while sleeping on your side might cure it completely. Elevate your head four inches when you sleep in order to reduce snoring, so that you can breathe easier. It is also beneficial to sleep with a specially designed pillow so that neck muscles are not too cramped. There are some foods and medications, also some drinks that should be avoided too, so that muscles are not able to relax and cause snoring. Alcohol, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers all cause muscle relaxation, while high-fat milk products and soy products cause mucus to build up. To stop snoring naturally, you should also clear nasal passages and wear nasal strips if you have a stuffy nose, since clogged nasal passages can make breathing difficult. Nasal decongestants work well also. Fun ways to lessen snoring would be to sing, since singing improves muscle control in the soft palate and throat, and start playing the didgeridoo, an instrument that will strengthen your soft palate and throat. Among all the various natural supplements and remedies, there are also medications that can be taken to reduce snoring. Anti-snoring pills and corticosteroid sprays are used as medications. The pill, also known as BGC20-0166, combines two serotonin-modulating drugs that help cure the obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disorder. Corticosteroid sprays are commonly used to ease nasal congestion, reducing inflammation as well to reduce snoring. There are also decongestants to stop snoring, which reduce nasal congestion and narrow blood vessels. Decongestants are often used in pill or spray form, and they last for about twelve hours. Even though these medication methods do help to reduce snoring, they also have side effects. Corticosteroid sprays can cause dried mucus membranes, sores in the nose, nose bleeds, and perforated septum, which is the tissue that divides nostrils. Decongestants can cause hypertension, headaches, irritation, heart rate increase, sleeping difficulty, and urine difficulty in men who have large prostates. Even so, not everyone will have these side effects when taking medication. Furthermore, there are medical cures and surgeries that can be taken to reduce snoring. However, you will need to contact a physician or an otolaryngologist (a nose, ear, and throat doctor) about possible medications that can be taken. You may also opt to give dental appliances a try if you consult a dentist who specializes in dental appliances. The surgeries that are usually taken to stop snoring will increase your airway size by removing tissues at the back of the throat or inside the nose so that air flows more easily through your throat. Surgery can also be taken to reconstruct your jaw to prevent snoring. Some common surgeries are Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy. The Pillar procedure, also known as palatal implantation, is a pretty new surgery performed in a doctor's office that requires inserting plastic implants that are less than an inch long into your palate. Although this procedure can be a little painful and can have mild side effects. The surgery is also pretty expensive and many insurance plans will not cover it. However, your scar tissue will strengthen so that vibrations in the throat decrease and lessen snoring. Overall, it is important that you get help immediately if you find yourself snoring. Snoring can take a tremendous toll over your life in a way that your whole lifestyle is affected. Relationships can also suffer as a result of snoring, and you are also at risk of numerous negative health affects. While you can stop snoring naturally and you can take medication, see your doctor if natural methods do not work in order to find out if you need to take surgery. You can get the best advice from your Doctor in terms of what to do in order to reduce snoring. Pretty soon you will be on your road to a happy, comfortable sleep with a thriving relationship! It is important to be aware of the multiple functions of vitamins and effects of deficiencies to understand the role of vitamin supplements. Vitamins allow nutrients to be digested and absorbed and convert carbohydrates and fats into energy. They help to metabolize nutrients, produce antibodies to strengthen immunity and develop resistance to diseases. Koncay Sazan More Information => http://www.healthmarketsupplements.com. Offbeat Academia: Roommate choices affect home harmony

He's always right there – snoring next to you, eating next to you, brushing his teeth while you're on the toilet – and you've become fearful that you'll never again have the luxury of sleeping alone. Suddenly, you're defensive. You start blowing up over little things. She's trying to suffocate you, she never apologizes, and she hated your black bean rice soup. You've become a self-destructive, ticking time bomb, waiting for the right moment to stomp out and never come back. That happens a lot, I'm sure. But it hasn't happened to me, yet. I'm crossing my fingers. Before living in this house, I lived with three boys with whom I had strictly platonic relationships, so it didn't happen there either. Although, I pretty much became the mother of the house – cooking dinner, cleaning, taking care of a dying cat, adding and dividing bills – I enjoyed it for the most part.Read More

The Desperate Dad’s Guide to Getting Some

You have to do more than sling one heavy, hairy arm across our chests a microsecond before you begin snoring. Professional help is available. DON'T blame the hormones. If we seem annoyed, assume it is your fault and strive mightily to mollify us. Do not automatically chalk it up to the vagaries of menstruation. Doing so will ensure long cycles of celibacy. DO let us sleep in. Corral the kids and keep them quiet. Then bring us breakfast in bed. This will release passion-promoting endorphins all over our bodies that by nightfall will have us convinced you are Brad Pitt. We might even slip into that negligee you bought years ago, the one with the price tag still on it. DON'T try to multitask.Read More

Horton Foote: In His Plays, He Never Left Home

James Hall's sister began to snore. I heard other people snoring in the bus. I looked out the window again. There were a few stars now. I closed my eyes, and the doubts began again. 'What if you have no talent? What if you finish acting school and you can't find a job acting and you have to go back home and work at your father's store the rest of you life? What if ... 'Hush up, I said to myself, just hush up. There is no going back now.' I closed my eyes then, and I thought of Billy singing, 'I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you,' and I wondered for the millionth time what would become of Billy and Speed and Brother. The tune of 'I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you,' came into my head then, and I was listening to it as I went back to sleep." .Read More

Special report: Surprising signs of heart disease danger

And if the man snores, their risk goes up even higher. That's right, snoring is another surprising sign of heart disease. The more severe the sleep apnea is the more likely the patient is to go on to develop coronary heart disease," said Rahimtoola. Another surprising sign of heart disease is erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction which is blood flow to the penis problem is the same mechanism that leads to blood vessel problems in the heart," explained the doctor. But perhaps one of the most surprising signs is in the earlobe. Some researchers believe a horizontal crease in the earlobe, could be a sign of problems with the heart. But Dr. Rahimtoola admits the link between earlobe creases and heart disease is a weak one. A much stronger link is smoking.Read More

Family slam drug death sentence

McCullough even videoed Mr Kennedy snoring in a chair after taking the drug on January 29. He later realised he had stopped breathing. McCullough and Bewley both pleaded guilty to supplying methodone. McCullough also admitted a similar offence involving supply to another person, and one charge of possessing traces of heroin. Both could be released in less than a year after serving time on remand. Gary Kennedy senior said he and his family are distraught at the life sentences, and asked: "Is life so worthless?" He added: "As you can imagine, the sentence which Bewley and McCullogh received has left our family devastated. "Is life so worthless? Can the government justify handing out lethal drugs on our streets? I am just a lay-person, but even I know that most of the drug users on methadone don’t actually use this drug themselves but sell it on, which means that the next person to buy this drug runs a high risk of death – it is that lethal." The court heard yesterday that during police interview, McCullough said Mr Kennedy had popped round for a drink the previous evening.REad More

Okay WTH?!

I had trouble sleeping with H's snoring so i just laid there. McSexy comes out of her room and came to sit next to me on the couch. We talked a bit and then the unthinkable [maybe not so surprising] thing happens, she leans in to kiss me! She started to take off my shirt and I her's but H's tossing and turning stopped us both. It was weird, we just looked at each other and she said sorry and left. After the finals i didn't hear from her so one night i was at a party, drinking, and decided to text her.. Me: hey i haven't heard from you in awhile, how've you been? MS: good. and you? Me: good. okay lets get to the point, can we talk about what happened before? MS: there's nothing to talk about. It was a mistake. I'm not even like that. Me: oh, okay. I understand. But in my head i was really thinking, BTCH! How can you lead me on all semester and then when i finally fall for you just leave me hanging?! I can't stop thinking about her now.Read More

Snoring – Causes And Cures

We try and giggle it off whenever we come across a filler in the mags or papers about a pair getting divorced because one of the spouses was snoring. Basically the difficulty of snoring is more major. It isn't a trifling bother. Snoring can end up in significant social and health implications. Heightened risk of diabetes, stroke, heart problems and high blood pressures are linked with snoring. In the day, the couples face lack of productiveness, irritation and sleepiness thanks to the ruffled sleep due to snoring.Snoring may cause one of the spouses to sleep in another room, leading the relationship to go sour. Social and physical intimacies of a pair are also influenced by the snoring. Mild snoring can be cured by awakening and turning to the other side. Harsh snoring may also cause serious sleep deprivation for the couple which can end up in the immune mechanism not replying quickly to the process of recovery, awfully poor emotional and psychological health, mood changes, not thinking extremely obviously and slow reaction.Heredity, obesity, approaching old age, being a male, smoking, lacking health fitness, defects in the nose, tonsils or enlarged adenoids, lengthy soft-palate, alcoholism, allergies, cold, sinus infection and sleeping on the back with overlay of pillows which are soft are a few of the causes for snoring. To cease snoring, attempt to shed weight, sleep on your side, sleep without a pillow, try and raise the head at least 4 inches from the bed, avoid smoking and secondary smoke, don't eat unhealthy foods or alcohol before bed and say no way to fat heavy dairy goods before bed time. Try decongestants to clear nasal passages. Nasal strips and sprays which claim to heal snoring are available in the market. A lot of them are unproven and can not bear any significant medical research.Sometimes a few of them might cure mild snoring.

Couples sleep alone over bed habits

The results revealed that constant snoring, stealing the duvet, rolling over to a partner's side of the bed and sleep talking and walking have all made for rocky relationships and a new trend for his and hers bedrooms. A third of Britons confess to being kept awake by their other half on a nightly basis, the study reveals. A fifth of Britons are regularly kept awake by a partner's snoring with a quarter of couples battling over their duvet every night. One in ten confess to being bashed in bed by an over-active partner and the same number are kept awake by sleep talking/walking partners. According to the survey, commissioned by bed manufacturer Silentnight, women suffer the most through their partner's bad bed habits, with 30% of them now sleeping in a different room.Read More

The You Docs tips for the week

It might nix your bedmate's sleep apnea, and some of the snoring that goes with it. When a group of overweight people with mild sleep apnea - meaning they stopped breathing for more than 10 seconds at a time while sleeping - went on a very-low-calorie diet, their apnea and lives improved (they lost weight, too). It's no big surprise that weight loss helps limit sleep apnea. After all, part of the problem is that there's obstruction in the free flow of air through the passages in the back of your mouth. When fat accumulates there, this blockage becomes even more likely. But the study did suggest that if you catch sleep apnea in its early stages and intervene with weight loss, you may be able to cure it or at least prevent it from getting worse. Sleep apnea isn't just an inconvenience: When you stop breathing, your body wakes up (hey, breathe, will ya?!) and prevents you from getting the rejuvenating benefits of sleep.Read More

Life in a hostel environment

'ROOM for rent: bunk bed, share with 250 housemates, must tolerate mess, snoring, drunks and the smell of budget travellers." You won't find this one up on the rental board at your local bookshop. If you did, you might deride it as a bogus prank, a joke ad for the desperate. Backpacker hostels offer basic accommodation for travellers, but for some inner-city house hunters, the hostel life offers a better option than the ordeal of enduring the home rental blues. Andrew (surname withheld by request), 35, of North Fitzroy, has found the rigmarole of looking for an inner-city share house to be a game of cutthroat frustration. "I'm not a student, not a woman, not a vegetarian. Once you whittle it down past that, down to your area, your price range, to the places that are still available and suitable, the odds of finding the right place just get smaller and smaller." Andrew recently racked up his 450th consecutive night in a shared dormitory bunk bed.

Pink road signs and funny place names

Great Snoring and Little Snoring are two other towns who possess curious names despite their relatively mundane appearance. Set in the backdrop of Norfolk in south-east of England the two towns sit near the edge of the coastline. The strange and curiously titled village of Wetwang sits at the northern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds in England. Like Lower Slaughter there are several suggestions to the origin of the places name. One of the more popular theories is that Wetwang gained its name from the Viking word Vaettvangrr which means the 'field of summons'. But despite its bizarre name Wetwang knows how to draw in the tourists. The town was subtly featured in JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy under the fictional name of 'Nidalf'.Read More

Morocco: A picture perfect getaway

My scepticism soon disappears when I realise this is perfect for gathering video evidence of my roommate's stentorian snoring. The latest digital SLRs now have superb three-inch LCD screens, which allow us to flick through the day's shots every evening, admiring individual approaches and discussing technical challenges. Our tutor also treats us to after-dinner talks gathered around his laptop, in which we are given insights into such mysteries as RAW (a file format), sharpening and camera calibration, and learn his "Six-Point Plan for Better Pictures". For me, the most inspiring of Steve's mantras is his insistence that we must all strive to take a proper photograph, not just a simple, representational record of our travels. This requires an eye for composition, as well as knowing how to get the best from your camera.Read More

The ups and downs of Mac OS X on a Dell Inspiron Mini 9

Happy as a proverbial clam, I turned it off, sat it aside, and — since my weekend was firmly screwed for sleep — collapsed into a heap of snoring mass. Enter Monday morning. Proudly, I packed the device and its power supply into a Kinko’s paper bag, and took it to work hoping to show it off to my fellow Mac buddies. I get to work. Tap the power button on.. "Operating System Not found"…. Crap.. I left work mid day last Monday to prepare for the road trip Tuesday morning. Went home, did about 20,000 loads of clothes while reloading Mac OSX. This time, making sure to disable the sleep and hibernation features which seemed to have caused the previous failure. All seems well, good, yes, thank you. Power down, pack it, the PS, and a Logitech BT mouse in a leather "Padfolio" which serves the purpose well enough for the moment.Read More

Devices for a good night's sleep

For one thing, many people don't necessarily know they have it because the symptoms are seemingly harmless: snoring, daytime drowsiness. In 2006, only 17.4 percent of patients with moderate to severe cases of OSA received treatment, according to Canaccord Adams Investment Research. The group estimates the global sales of sleep-therapy devices will hit $3 billion in 2010 compared with $1.5 billion in 2006. However, one medical expert says that the neurostimulation technology still needs additional testing and that some existing therapies are cheaper and probably more effective.Read More

Removal of tonsils may aid ADHD kids

Habitual snoring also predicted that a patient would become hyperactive in the future, he said. And it is estimated that between 15 and 25 per cent of children with ADHD would benefit from a diagnosis of sleep disorders. Some researchers believe children who are deprived of sleep have a strong motivation to stay alert, and will create their own stimulus, including hyperactivity, in order to stay alert, Chervin said. Still, there is no clear-cut cause-and-effect relationship between sleep disorders and ADHD, and it's not likely that tonsillectomies will be prescribed as a blanket treatment for ADHD. There are still some puzzles to be solved. For example, children without sleep apnea benefited just as much as those subjects who had sleep apnea. It's possible that the relationship between sleep disturbance and hyperactivity is a matter of degree, Chervin said.Read More
